John Paterson

It is with deep regret that the club reports the passing of John paterson on 18th January 2012.

John was a founder member who, from the very outset, was a strong supporter of the club. This lasted until he sold his business and in his words “bought a wee hoose in Spain” Over recent years he spent winters there and returned for our summers although both he and his wife found difficulty in maintaining this lifestyle because of ill health. He enjoyed his sport and besides table tennis he was a member of Harburn Golf Club and Pumpherston Bowling Club.

John was blessed with a relaxed easy going attitude which made him a very popular whether in a social or sporting event. The expression “one of life’s gentlemen” would provide an apt description of his personality.

He is survived by a wife (Maria) and two children (Steven and Lesley) to whom we convey our sincerest condolences.

I am deeply saddened to hear of John’s passing. He was a true gentleman and I always had a lot of time for him. He was of course also a pretty useful TT player whose style suited mine perfectly. As a result our encounters were always evenly matched, hard fought and more importantly, very enjoyable. John will be sadly missed.

When I heard of John’s passing I was deeply shocked, and as John McCulloch has said John was one of our very first menbers. He was hugely
popular with everyone, and indeed was extremely generous with his contributions to our Club.

I only knew John through our Table Tennis but, to be associated with him. was a real pleasure because of his easy manners and thoughtfulness.

On behalf of all our Club members, can we express our sincere condolences to his family. Maria, Lesley, and Steven, and end by saying that John will be sadly missed from all our lives.

    Chairman
    West Lothian Table Tennis
